Mr. Sowell it has been some time since I have agreed with what comes out of your mouth but with this article on the desire of many of our country’s leaders and institutions to imitate Europe I fully agree.
For too long now the care of what other countries think about America has taken us down a very slippery slope of mediocrity, loss of individuality and self reliance. America was born on the backs of those who struck out looking for a place that will allow them individually to become all that they can be and not corralled by the nanny state.
This is all evidenced by the millions who are lifting up a candidate for the presidency who will give them their nanny state. These millions are the same ones who were brought up to think that winning is not everything, that there are no losers, that every team gets a trophy so that no one gets left out.
Then there is John “Amnesty” McCain who wants to give away as Regan did free entry to America, an America that was born out of blood and guts so that all men can be free in their pursuit of a contented life. I believe that McCain should preach that if you want to be like America then pay the same price that our founders did – Revolt against those that hinder their search for contentedness.
Speaking of revolt, it is now time for we Americans to have our own revival. We need to revisit the declaration of our independence especially the first paragraph; “When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands that have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature’s God entitle them,…”
I believe that the political bands that have connected us is the two party system that needs to be dissolved by the election of an independent unaffiliated candidate such as Tom Millican. If we do not have the courage that our founders did and revolt against this insidious two party system that has taken us to today’s circumstances then we will continue to slide down that slippery slope into mediocrity, loss of individuality and self reliance in other words SOCIALISM!
